Dr. Leo Varadkar's government needs the support of coalition partner Fianna Fail in order to remain in power.
But for reasons not related to Brexit, Fianna Fail has initiated a no-confidence motion that can only be satisfied by the resignation or firing of Dr. Varadkar's deputy, Frances Fitzgerald.
Being about to face an election will surely be a distraction for Dr. Varadkar when he meets with EU leaders in December re Brexit.
