EU Parliament Brexit Coordinator Guy Verhofstadt said at a joint meeting of EU committees in Dublin:
"[The European Parliament and the European Union] will never allow that Ireland will suffer by the British decision to leave the European Union."
and that the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland is an "illogical divide" that "created chaos, created hate, created violence."
It's good to hear that the EU is sympathetic to the immense problems that a controlled border between the 2 states would create for both. But I'm not hearing anything like a solution in there.
Dr. Varadkar has recently studied the US-Canada border (see Related Listings, above) and concluded that a similar setup would be unworkable in Ireland.
I hope Theresa May has her best minds working on this.
