A closer look at these numbers shows that, for January-October 2017 vs. January-October 2016:

  • Great Britain's share of Irish inbound dropped significantly, from 40.29% to 36.72%.
  • Continental Europe's share of visits increased slightly, from 34.92% to 35.36%.
  • North America's share of visits increased from 19.14% to 21.63%.
  • "Other Area" (Asia, Oceania, South America) share of visits increased from 5.65% to 6.29%.
  • The absolute number of total overseas visits to Ireland increased by 3.07% (8531500 vs. 8277500).

So although Brexit and the weak GBP are causing fewer Brits to visit Ireland, visits from all the rest of the world are so far more than compensating for that shrinkage.
