The Ireland-NI border dilemma has effectively given Ireland veto power over the current Brexit talks on a financial settlement between the UK and the EU.
But that advantage will be lost if the talks progress to discussions of trade without a resolution of the border issue.
Unfortunately for Ireland, the country isn't in a strong position to hinder the other 26 EU members from getting on with discussions of a trade deal with the UK.
Reverting to a hard Ireland-NI border would be very bad for tourism in both countries.
