Silver lining of this cloud is: visits from North America were up 20% for August and 18% year to date.
But dropoff in short-haul travel from mainland Europe - down 2% in August although up 3% ytd - is worrisome.
Some of that dropoff is likely due to the fact that the UK is on sale because of weakness of the GBP (partly Brexit-related) against the euro. The UK is, after all, Ireland's #1 competitor for short-haul tourists from the eurozone.
