In a speech last week to the SNP conference Nicola Sturgeon announced a plan to enable local councils - including specifically Edinburgh and the Arran Islands - to balance short-term and traditional long-term rentals.
However, Ms. Sturgeon also noted that Airbnb accommodations contribute to Scotland's booming tourism economy.
Community groups have raised concerns about antisocial behavior, trash, noise, damage to common facilities and overcrowding that they say are caused by the rapid proliferation of Airbnb properties in some neighborhoods.
