The UK Office of National Statistics has released its provisional overseas travel and tourism statistics for July 2016.
Key points:
- In the 12 months to July 2016, UK residents made 67.8M trips abroad, up 7% from the same period a year earlier, and spent 9% more.
- In the 12 months to July 2016, overseas residents made 36.6M trips to the UK, up 4%, but spent 1% less.
- In the month of July 2016, overseas residents made 3.8M trips to the UK, up 2% from July 2015.
The 95% confidence intervals for these statistics run as high as +/- 9.8%; no one should get too excited about changes of 1-2%.
