In response to a proposal by UK Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab that the Ireland border "backstop" mechanism be temporary - ending after 3 months - Taoiseach Dr. Leo Varadkar has told UK PM Theresa May that although he is open to some sort of backstop review mechanism, this cannot be the same as "unilateral decision" by May & Co. to end the backstop, and that he expects the UK Government to honor its commitment to enact a "legally operative" backstop.
Back in June, EU Brexit Chef Negotiator Michel Barnier refused to accept an earlier UK proposal for a temporary backstop.
