Ireland CSO figures just released for December 2019 show inbound overseas tourism for CY 2019 were up 1.8% overall vs. 2018, an increase of 191,000 visits.
For 2019, by market:
- Britain +0.8%
- Europe +2.6%
- North America +1.2%
- Long-haul +5.5%
However, in the month of December, visits from North America were down 5% from December 2018.
In an interview, Tourism Ireland CEO Niall Gibbons blamed decreased North America-Ireland winter air capacity.
Norwegian ended all transatlantic flights to Ireland in September.
