European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in an interview yesterday regarding the reopening of Europe to tourism:
“The Americans, as far as I can see, use European Medicines Agency-approved vaccines. This will enable free movement and the travel to the European Union."
Most Americans are being vaccinated against COVID-19 with the Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, all of which are approved for use in the European Union. And all US adults are now eligible for vaccination.
Ms. von der Leyen's remarks hold out hope that a late-summer 2021 reopening of Europe may be possible - but some form of vaccine passport that's acceptable to both the US and the EU may be a requirement.
