The United States Department of State and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have issued a Level 4: Do Not Travel Advisory and a Level 4 Travel Health Warning, respectively, for Spain, Portugal and Cyprus because of increasing rates of COVID-19 infections in these countries.
The Department of State also said:
“Your risk of contracting COVID-19 and developing severe symptoms may be lower if you are fully vaccinated with an FDA authorized vaccine. Before planning any international travel, please review the CDC’s specific recommendations for fully vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers."
Although US President Joe Biden said during a news conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel last week that the ban on travel from Europe may soon end, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki subsequently said that the US will not be lifting travel restrictions "at this point" because of concerns about the highly contagious Delta variant of COVID-19.
The EU removed the entry ban on visitors from the US on 18 June.
Ambassador of the European Union to the United States Stavros Lambridindinis had previously criticized the US travel ban, particularly as it affects European business executives who have investments in the country.
