New (17 June 2021) research report Monitoring Sentiment for Domestic and Intra-European Travel �" Wave 7 from the European Travel Commission (ETC) finds that 72% of survey respondents say they plan to travel between June and September 2021 - 31% in June or July, 41% in August or September. Another 16% said they plan to travel in October-November.
51% of those planning to travel in the next 6 months want to visit another EU country, while 36% plan to travel domestically.
Preferred destinations of those planning to travel in summer 2021 include Spain, Italy, France, Greece and Portugal.
These are the highest levels of travel intention the ETC has seen since August 2020.
The majority (57%) of survey respondents said they are more optimistic about traveling this year because of vaccination rollouts, and 54% said they plan to book a trip as soon as they've been vaccinated against COVID-19.
42% of respondents said they had already booked a trip.
Air travel is still the most preferred mode of transportation, but at 47% is down 11 points since February; while preference for travel by car has increased by 23 points to 39%.
