HB 1609 would originally have added a $2/room/day charge to the existing rooms and meals tax, to be collected by the State.
The current amendment to the bill would make the $2 charge a separate fee to go the municipalities to fund the cost of collection and be used for capital projects or to promote tourism. Citizens of municipalities would vote on instituting the fee or not.
NHLRA opposes the bill "on principle" as the State is already taxing the commerce in rooms.
