Hotel industry market researchers STR report that after peaking in the week of 31 July 2021, overall US hotel occupancy has continued to decline each week through 28 August, when it was at 61.0%, down 8.4% from the same week in 2019.
Also in that week, although ADR was up 3.2% YOY vs. 2019 to $131.91, RevPAR was down 5.5% to $80.53.
ADR has declined each week after peaking in the week of 7 August.
Of 25 major markets, Norfolk/Virginia Beach had the highest occupancy (+2.8% to 71.4%) and RevPAR (+21.1% to $106.86) vs. 2019. increases.
Miami reported the greatest ADR increase (+27.5% to $173.61).
Hotel performance continues to reflect normal seasonality as well as travel restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hurricane Ida is also expected to impact hotel performance adversely - especially in the Gulf region - next week.
