Portland ME regional DMO Visit Portland (ex- Greater Portland CVB) has proposed the creation of a Tourism Improvement District which would be funded by a 2% bed tax to be charged to guests of Portland-area hotels.

Funds collected would be used to promote tourism, hopefully leading to increased hotel occupancy and visitor spend.

Currently, Visit Portland is funded entirely by member fees.

Visit Portland has retained consultants Civitas Advisors to move this project forward. Aim is to have the Improvement District approved by the Portland City Council and up and running by fall 2021.
