Failte Ireland has reported statistics on overseas tourist visits and spending, by region and county; also domestic trip numbers and spending; also data on demographics, season, accommodation type, etc., etc.
Example, for overseas holidaymakers visiting the Dublin region:
- Where they came from:
- Britain 24%
- Europe 41%
- North America 20%
- Other 15%
- 31% visited between October and March.
- 46% came by air from Europe.
- 63% stayed at a hotel (56% of total bednights).
- 31% also visited the South West region, 30% the West region.
- 69% were first-time visitors.
- 42% traveled as couples.
- 58% were white-collar (C1).
- 26% were aged 25-34.
- 59% were women.
- 53% were married.
- Only 17% brought children.
- 28% hired a car.
- Only 17% were on a package tour.
- 61% rated the “value of money” of their trip as Good, 33% Fair.
That’s great information - only a small sample of what’s in the report, and much of it is actionable by marketers and suppliers. If you’re involved in tourism in Ireland, you need to study this report.
