This Hartford Courant article by Denise Coffey reports on Connecticut's destination-marketing woes in 2016.
The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development suffered a budget cut of $14M, much of which came out of tourism. The Connecticut Office of Tourism has been shut down.
This brings to mind 2009, when then-Governor M. Jodi Rell cut Connecticut's funding for Discover New England, causing the state to be wiped off that organization's map for a year. Tourism is a very competitive industry, and doing no marketing for a year will hurt Connecticut badly - again.
