What VisitScotland is trying to do here is relieve pressure on the most popular tourist spots and seasons by promoting other less-popular locales that are worth seeing, and those worth seeing in seasons other than high summer.
Because when a destination becomes so overrun with tourists all coming at once that road traffic goes into gridlock - think Acadia National Park or downtown Boston in summer - the tourists start staying away.
