Major European tour operators are reporting significant increases - by double-digit percentages in some cases - of early bookings by Germans for summer holidays in eastern Mediterranean and north-African destinations.
Last week at ITB, Alltours managing director Markus Daldrup said:
“There could be a bed shortage in Turkey and Greece. Not only the German market but others, such as Russia, are growing too.”
This follows an extended period of low demand for these destinations resulting from numerous terror attacks, as well as the coup in Turkey.
Unfortunately, international tourists are a tempting target for terrorists of every stripe, because of the inevitable global media attention any attack is bound to receive. Lets hope that security in these countries will be up to the challenge ion 2018.
