22 months following the indictment of Boston tourism director Kenneth Brissette on extortion charges stemming from alleged coercion of the Boston Calling music festival management into hiring unneeded union labor, a US District Court judge has canceled the scheduled trial.

The cancellation follows filing of a motion by the defense to dismiss, and a motion by the prosecution not to go further with the case. Prosecutors believe that instructions the judge had planned to give to jurors - that to be found guilty the defendants must have personally benefited from the alleged extortion - are incorrect in light of precedent, and in any case unprovable.
