The Tourism Association of New Brunswick had supported the proposed Province-wide tax, but in a surprise move the NB Government killed the levy which would have funded destination marketing for NB.
Some NB regional tourism groups already have voluntary marketing fees in place.
Bed taxes are always controversial: proponents believe they're good because they provide a reliable source of marketing funds, while opponents say they discourage tourism by raising room rates.
