After hearing extensive public testimony, the South Portland City Council voted last week to put the City's short-term-rental ordinance to a referendum vote on 6 November.
The most controversial provision of the ordinance is a ban on short-term rentals by absentee landlords in residential neighborhoods.
More than 700 rental units have been registered, but implementation of the ordinance has twice been stalled by petitions originated by landlords.
Let's at least have some health and safety regulations and inspections, please.
