By the largest margin since Margaret Thatcher's re-election to a third term in 1987, Boris Johnson's Conservatives have won in the UK general election held yesterday 364 seats in Parliament with 43.6% of the vote.
The GDP rose to $1.34 on the news.
Johnson - who now has the majority needed to ratify his proposal for withdrawal from the EU - said in a speech yesterday that he will "get Brexit done" on 31 January 2020.
The Labour Party won 203 seats, the fewest since 1935. Labour leader Jeremy Corbin has said he will step down in early 2020.
The SNP won 48 of Scotland's 59 seats. SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon has said she will publish plans for a new Scottish independence referendum within a week.
US President Donald Trump tweeted this morning:
"Congratulations to Boris Johnson on his great WIN! Britain and the United States will now be free to strike a massive new Trade Deal after BREXIT. This deal has the potential to be far bigger and more lucrative than any deal that could be made with the E.U. Celebrate Boris!"
