French news outlet BFM TV reported on Friday that President Emmanuel Macron said during a videoconference with trade unions on Friday that the borders of the Schengen Zone could remain closed to foreigners - specifically Americans, as well as residents of Africa and Asia - until September.
Reason given was that the COVID-19 pandemic is evolving at different rates around the world, with peaks not yet reached in the USA and Africa, and a second peak possible in Asia.
Meanwhile, EU officials have called for member states to continue border closures until at least mid-May, despite "encouraging results" to date.
