UK PM Boris Johnson announced today that in an effort to stem the rise of COVID-19 infections in the country, beginning Thursday 24 September all pubs, bars and restaurants must close at 10 PM.
Also:
- Businesses may offer table service and takeaway only - no bar or counter service.
- Staff must wear masks.
- Violators may be fined up to 200 GBP.
- Police and local authorities will receive additional funding for enforcement.
- Curfew will likely remain in place for at least 6 months.
UKHospitality CEO Kate Nicholls characterized the curfew as yet another "crushing blow" to the hospitality industry.
