New research by travel and tourism marketers MMGY Global based on a survey of 4800 Black US leisure travelers estimates that US Blacks spent around $109.4B on leisure travel in 2019, accounting for about 13.1% of the US market.
Also per the MMGY Global report, Black US leisure travelers took an average of 3 overnight trips with an average stay of 2.5 nights, and an average party spend of about $600 per stay.
77% of Black professionals who travel for business said they look for representation in a destination's marketing materials as a key indicator of receptivity to Black visitors.
I suspect that when planning a trip Black leisure travelers are looking for representation in marketing materials also.
MMGY Global plans to release a second phase of this report in January 2021 which analyzes opinions and attitudes of Black leisure travelers globally.
