Mexico Tourism Minister Miguel Torruco this week is leading a delegation including 10 state tourism ministers and executives of 3 Mexican airlines to Los Angeles to promote Mexico tourism in anticipation of the reopening of the US-Mexico land border this fall.
The trade mission is a part of Mexico's overarching tourism promotion strategy "operación toca puertas" ("knocking on doors").
The delegation met with California-based MX consuls-general and tourism sector business leaders.
In a normal year, tourism contributes 9% of Mexico's GDP, and California is Mexico's #1 US market.
Mr. Torruco plans additional US trade missions, to Chicago and NYC in October, and to Houston and San Antonio in November.
Altogether the cost of these trade missions will be around 4M pesos, about US$200K.
