Domestic travelers driving recovery of MA tourism
MOTT reports that in 2022, domestic tourists spent $22B in the state, up from $20.8B in pre-pandemic 2019, while spend by international tourists was down to $2,2B from $4B in 2019.
That 2022 tourist spend supported 131,200 jobs in the Commonwealth, and generated $1.9B in state and local tax revenue.
And the recovery continues: in the first 5 months of 2023, MA lodging room revenues of $1.5B were up 18% YOY from 2022.
