New 'Green Book of China's Tourism' published
The new volume is the product of a joint effort by the National Academy of Economic Strategy, the Tourism Research Centre of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the Social Sciences Academic Press.
Earlier versions of the work have been published periodically since at least 2002.
The 2024 edition includes analyses and forecasts of China's tourism development during 2023-2024.
Key points made in the book:
- China's economy has been rebounding from the COVID pandemic, enabling the potential for recovery of the country's tourism industry.
- The key to integrating tourism development into China's modernization lies in ensuring support for resources, talent and "institutional mechanism."
Along with a general report, the book includes 3 thematic sections containing analyses from various perspectives by experts from different fields:
Frontier Exploration focuses on current trends, transformation and innovation in tourism.
Cultural and Tourism Integration analyzes new integrations of culture and tourism, and addresses topics like national cultural parks, integration of cultural heritage and tourism development, cultural and creative development, and educational travel.
Technology Empowerment addresses the impact of digital technology on the tourism industry, covering topics like immersive tourism, technology-driven tourism businesses, applications of VR, and the influence of the digital economy on sports and urban tourism.
The book also includes data and analysis of domestic, inbound and outbound tourism with respect to the development of markets.
The one possible source I could find for this book is here: https://shop.eastview.com/results/item?SKU=2130687Y . The page at that URL indicates that the language of the book is Simplified Chinese (although some of the cover copy is also in English) and that availability is "Inquire" . No price is stated. It looks like this source has back issues of the Green Book also.
