David Posted 28 February 2018:

As of 1 January 2018 Vermont minimum wage became $10.50/hour. Also at that time employees gained expanded rights to breaks, time off for medical appointments, and other accommodations for pregnancy-related conditions.

The new bill would raise minimum wage to $15/hour by 2024.

But Governor Phil Scott has threatened to veto the bill, and it also faces opposition in the House.

Opponents point out that although the minimum wage in NH is only $7.25/hour, economic conditions have pushed the average wage higher than that in Vermont. So NH employers who can afford to do so are paying well above the minimum wage, and those who can't afford to raise wages aren't forced to. That sounds like an ideal situation, except that some employers are greedy. And that kind of greed - maybe along with some employee greed - is what results in legislation for raising the minimum wage. And raising prices for tourists.
