Posted 03 March 2018: Following the rejection on tourism concerns by NH regulators of Eversource's Northern Pass transmission line project through that state, Massachusetts has started negotiations with CMP for a backup plan. CMP has proposed a 145-mile transmission line carrying Hydro-Quebec power through the state from the QC border to Lewiston, where it would connect to the New England grid. MA Governor Charlie Baker has set a goal of having 1200 MW of incremental renewable energy under contract by 1 April 2018 for delivery to his state. MA critics say that whichever utilities will ultimately be involved in this project will profit excessively under Gov. Baker's terms. More later. |
