66% of Europeans say they plan to travel through March 2022, 55% to another European country

European Travel Commission

In a media release today, the European Travel Commission updated its survey of Sentiment for Domestic and Intra-European Travel.

Key findings:

  • 66% of Europeans plan to travel in te next 6 months
  • Destination preference has shifted away from domestic to intra-European, with 55% of survey respondents saying they plan to visit another European country.
  • More than 50% said they are once again comfortable with the idea of air travel.
  • For the first time since October 2020, planned travel dates are spread evenly over the next 6 months, which suggests a return of spontaneity in trip planning.
  • Top destinations will be:
  1. Spain, Italy (tie)
  2. France
  3. Greece
  • 18% said they plan to take a city break - a 2021 peak - most of 3 nights or fewer.
  • Last-minute trip planning is on the increase: only 29% of those who said they plan to travel in October or November have fully booked their trip.
  • Intended trip spend is down.
