Posted 22 February 2018:

671M people visited European countries in 2017, up 8.4% overall from 2016.. ETC credits strengthening economies in source markets, and recovery of destinations that had been affected by terror attacks.

Biggest gains (percentagewise): Turkey, Iceland, Montenegro

Re traditional Western-European destinations:

  • Belgium +12%
  • Portugal +12%
  • Greece +11%
  • Spain +9%
  • Switzerland +8%
  • Germany +6%
  • Austria +5%
  • Ireland +4%
  • Italy +3%

Note that the UK isn't included in this survey.

Also note that many of the visits to the various countries in Europe came from other countries in Europe, and the aggregate figures include all of these intra-European trips.
