US DOC ITA reports that international visit numbers to the USA in January 2016 were up by 1% overall from January 2015.
January 2016 was the 5th consecutive month of growth in inbound visit numbers.
Top 10 countries among US international source markets in terms of absolute numbers of visits (showing % change from January 2015 to January 2016) were:
- Mexico (+3%)
- Canada (-13%)(primarily because of weak Loonie)
- PRC (+35%)
- Japan (+3%)
- UK (+12%)
- Brazil (-22%)(combination of visa hassles and currency exchange)
- South Korea (+13%)
- Australia (+10%)
- Germany (+5%)
- India (+17%)
Top regional source markets (showing % change) were:
- Asia (+16%)
- Western Europe (+7%)
- Oceania (+9%)
- Middle East (+3%)
- Central America (+23%)
- Caribbean (+9%)
- Eastern Europe (+5%)
- Africa (+8%)
Pleasure vs. Business: More than 90% of the visits from Argentina and Costa Rica were for pleasure, while fewer than 70% of the visits from the UK, Germany, France and the Netherlands represented pleasure travel.
