Maine Huts & Trails has announced that the organization is unable to accept full-service reservations for winter 2019-2020, but guests can book self-service stays at the Flagstaff, Poplar and Stratton Brook Huts.
In September, Maine Huts & Trails had said that they would be unable to open for winter 2019-2020 unless able to raise $500K to pay 15 employees and repair buildings - also that it needs to raise an additional $1M to restructure for long-term sustainability.
Unfortunately fundraising has fallen short.
Kingfield-area residents have been critical of the organization for failing to involve local people more in its management.
