Bay Ferries of Charlottetown, PEI - which holds a 10-year contract with the Province of Nova Scotia to operate summer ferry service between Maine and Yarmouth, NS - has secured a 5-year lease of The Cat high-speed ferry from the US Navy.
Construction delays at the Bar Harbor, ME terminal - which Bay Ferries would have used for the first time in 2019, following relinquishment of its lease of terminal space in Portland - resulted in the service not running at all in 2019.
Nova Scotia's subsidy of The Cat, including the Bar harbor construction work, amounted to around CAD$20M in 2019.
