Forwardkeys has published data on international long-haul arrivals for January-May 2016 historical and June-August 2016 forward bookings.
Highlights:
- Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Middle East had good growth in international long-haul arrivals for both January-May 2016 (historical) and forward bookings for June-August.
- Europe and North America arrivals January-May were flat with the same period a year ago.
- All regions had growth in forward bookings for June-August 2016 vs. 2015 except for Europe (down 2.1%).
- FR, DE, IT and UK are all underperforming for June-August 2016.
- FR, BE and TK are "clearly suffering from terrorist events."
- Northern and eastern Europe, Spain and Ireland show promising growth for June-August.
- North America is proving to be the most resilient summer source market for Europe; but the US State Department has issued travel warnings for June-August.
- US, CA, AU and CN are stable source markets for Europe; BR and JP show declines from 2015 (-27% and -14%, respectively).
- With the exception of BR, Latin America is a strong source market for Europe, and an extremely important one for ES.
- Indians and Chinese are heading to northern Europe.
