Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly TD has announced in a media release an amendment to requirements re inbound travel to Ireland, as follows:
- After midnight UTC tonight Saturday 4 December 2021 inbound overseas passengers to Ireland will be required to show a negative COVID-19 test result.
- Passengers with proof of full vaccination or recovery can show either:
- a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours prior to arrival, or
- a negative Rapid Antigen Test result from a test on the EU approved list carried out by a health professional or other skilled person within 48 hours of arrival
- Passengers without proof of full vaccination or recovery must show a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours prior to arrival.
- Proof of a negative test must be checked pre-departure, and may be checked again upon arrival.
- Passengers who arrive without a negative test result are required to quarantine and
- Take a PCR test within 36 hours of arrival - exit quarantine if negative, or
- Remain in quarantine for 10 days
- Exceptions to the amended requirements include:
- Transport workers
- Children under 12
- Persons traveling for urgent medical reasons
- Garda/Defence forces on active duty
- Persons traveling subject to arrest warrants or other legal proceeding
- Office holders or elected representatives on official business
- Persons traveling in a humanitarian emergency certified by the Department of Foreign affairs
- Persons arriving from Northern Ireland and who have not been overseas in the prior 14 days
Mr. Donnelly said the new requirements are "intended to be temporary and will be kept under constant review."
