On Thursday last week, Icelandic budget carrier WOW Air posted on its website a "TRAVEL ALERT" which says in part:
End of Operation of WOW AIR
Information for WOW AIR passengers
WOW AIR has ceased operation. All WOW AIR flights have been cancelled.
How will I reach my destination?
Passengers are advised to check available flights with other airlines.
Some airlines may offer flights at a reduced rate, so-called rescue fares, in light of the circumstances. Information on those airlines will be published, when it becomes available.
Announcement goes on to say that updates will be published on the website of the Icelandic Transport Authority:
Some analysts are predicting the airline's failure could be a terrible blow to Iceland tourism and drop the country's GDP by 2.7%. Others believe the shuttering of WOW Air will benefit tourism by reducing overtourism in fragile areas.
Stay tuned for updates as the situation unfolds.
